Research Interests

Ludwig Wittgenstein
In Philosophy:
I have published articles on the later work of the Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein and its application to particular issues in the history of psychology, such as Koehler's views on visual perception, Helmholtz on the logical possibilities for viewing four-dimensional objects, and the classification of psychological concepts.

Presently I am at work on a manuscript on a Wittgensteinian construal of the logical possibilities for a science of psychology.  Those with similar interests are invited to contact me through the e-mail link included above.

In the language arts:
I have done statistical and other research on aspects of second language learning theories and the requirements of language learning programs.  For some time I was involved in research in court interpreting instruction.

I frequently give presentations on design of language learning facilities.

Personal Interests

"Sumatra"
1964 Cheoy Lee "Frisco Flyer" sloop
Sailing:
I have owned the boat pictured at left since 1979.  It is a 25- foot, fiberglass sloop with teak cabin and decks, built in a well known Hong Kong shipbuilding yard in 1964.

Seafood cooking:
A year on the Oregon coast made me a serious convert to seafood cooking.  Southern California does not have the wealth of inexpensive seafoods and excellent recipes that Oregon does... but it has a wealth of old Italian fishermen with excellent recipes of their own.

Mexico:
My wife Robyn and I frequently travel to Mexico, and hope to spend our retirement there; in the future I will add a photo gallery to this site.  Our special interest is in Mexico's west coast.
