This Pond Ecology website is a series of interactive activities that are being designed for high school students whose reading skills are not at grade level. Students who are behind in reading skills might be able to master the science content standards if they are provided with effective, science-focused reading support and alternative content-learning activities that incorporate technology.
Often these students are behind in science content understanding because they have failed to learn the science content in previous years. Remediation options for the science content from the lower grades can be found in the: Prerequisite Remediation Options Locator.
These students may be living in inner city areas in impoverish conditions, which also limits their opportunities for visiting natural habitats. The site is being designed to give the student an experience of the sights and sounds of a natural pond. Optimally, after completing these activities the students would also experience increased appreciation of outdoor areas.
