Declaring a Pre-Business Major

Note: the following information applies to students whose major is anything other than pre-Business Administration and who wish to change their major to pre-business. The rules and procedures for declaring an upper division Business major (such as Accounting or Marketing) are different.

Admission to the Pre-Business major is impacted. Students must meet specific requirements in order to be able to change their major to Pre-Business.
You may change your major to Pre-Business if you meet one of the following:

  • You have completed 0 - 29 college units and have an overall GPA of at least 2.0

  • You have completed 30 - 59 college units and have an overall GPA of at least 2.7

  • You have completed 60 units or more and have an overall GPA of at least 2.9

When you meet one of the requirements listed above, you should contact the Business Advising Center (BA 448) for information on how to change your major.

You may not take FIN 240: Legal Environment of Business or IDS 290: Business Communications, until you have declared your pre-business major. However, you may take all the other pre-business courses and your general education courses even if you are not yet a pre-business major.
