The primary
objective of this joint binational effort is to train the next generation of
public administration leaders in the border region. Other objectives include
the following:
Educate
the next generation of public, private, and not-for-profit managers and
leaders who feel the need to understand the U.S.-Mexican border region as
well as how the governments, not-for-profits, legal institutions, and various
public and quasi-public agencies and organizations operate "on the other
side"
Improve delivery of governmental services to border communities, promote
sustainable economic development, and improve the quality of life of border
residents
Improve transborder cooperation at the community level to address transborder
problems and take advantage of regional opportunities
Develop
effective working relationships across the border to collaborate in areas
such as harmonized data generation, geographic information systems, and
regional planning
Develop
human capital infrastructure, which is a necessary step in recognizing and
utilizing the potentials and strengths of the transborder region
Generate
transborder planning, cooperation, and coordination in the private, public,
and not-for-profit sectors
Conduct
scholarly and applied research into current public policy issues along the
U.S.-Mexican border
Increase
interactivity between higher education institutions in the United States
and Mexico
