Intergroup Relations Laboratory

                                                   Thierry Devos

Research in this lab focuses on issues related to social identity, stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination. Several collaborative projects explore the discrepancies between conscious and unconscious beliefs about social groups. For example, studies conducted in this lab show that people may express a strong explicit commitment to equality and yet implicitly consider that ethnic minorities are less American than Whites. Even when individuals consciously reject stereotypes about their group, these stereotypical beliefs may affect their self-concept without them being able to report or control such influence. We also conduct research on emotional responses to perception of injustice or discrimination.

For further details about ongoing research projects, consult recent publications and conference presentations.
