Dr. Trillo is a visiting scholar, on a Fulbright Senior Research Scholarship and Assistant Professor of Urban Planning at the University of Naples, Italy. Her current research concerns the implementation of Smart Growth at the local scale, by focusing on the case of the San Diego Region.

She graduated in Architecture (1996),  and received her post-graduated degree (1997) in Urban Planning and her Ph.D (2001) in Urban Design at the University of Naples.

Dr. Trillo has written over 30 essays on regional planning, urban planning, urban design, tourist development; she is the author of Territori del turismo (2003).  She was lecturer and teacher in Italy, U.S.A., Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Bulgaria, Romania.

Dr. Trillo's areas of interest include smart growth and regional planning, urban planning, site planning, urban design and tourist development.

In her work, research and professional experiences are inextricably linked. For example, her research and publications on regional planning are based on her direct involvement in the evaluation activities of the development attempts in the Campania Region, as Member of the Regional Unit for the Evaluation of Public Investments from November 2001. Similarly, her consulting and designing activity is connected to urban planning and design. She has served as consultant and urban planner to several public institutions and various universities; since 2006, she is Member  of the Regional Commission of National Institute of Urban Planning (INU)

Awards include the Fulbright Senior Research Scholarship from the U.S. Fulbright Commission, a prize for publishing the Ph-D thesis, scholarships from the ERASMUS program (UE) and from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy for studying in Germany (Bauhaus  Weimar, and University of Bremen), scholarship from the Italian Institute of Philosophic Studies and from the University of Naples to attend PhD courses in Urban Design. Her team won 2nd place in an urban design competition “Entrance to the Airport” at the  Capodichino Airport  (2000) and 2nd place in a planning competition “Master plan for the Piana of Sele” at the Provincia of Salerno (1998); her team was recently (2008) mentioned in an urban planning competition for the coast line of Salerno.
