Proposal for Eleanor Roosevelt College Audio Walking Tour

Issue and Audience

The guided campus tour at University of California, San Diego does not extend to Eleanor Roosevelt College (ERC). Prospective students and their parents regularly come onto the ERC campus following the guided tour. However, no formal tour or mechanism to direct them through the campus currently exists. Community members and facutly who visit ERC also regularly get lost due to the lack of direction and signage on campus.

Solution

A map with complementary audio walking tour would address every issue in a cost-effective manner. The maps could be printed for minimal cost and posted at the central entrances to the ERC campus, eliminating the need for costly signs. The audio podcast portion of the tour would complement the map and provide visitors with a user-controlled interactive component. The audio podcast could also be downloaded prior to coming to campus or immediately before starting the tour.

Outcomes

The goal for the audio walking tour is three-fold:

  1. Provide practical descritpion and direction for the ERC campus.
  2. Communicate the history of the college and its campus.
  3. Communicate the mission of the college and why it is named for Eleanor Roosevelt.
