Parent InvolvementProject teachers receive training in the use of the Annenberg/CPB Partners for Reform in Science and Math (PRISM) Parent Outreach Kit, the Charles A. Dana Center Family Learning Events - Science and Math Activities through a Literacy Approach, and the Family Science book.. As a culmination of the second year of the SABIO project a science extravaganza for project students and parents was sponsored. The half-day event was held on June 10, 2000 at San Diego State University. It included hands-on activities lead by project teachers, science demonstrations by project teachers and students, science project displays, tours in selected science laboratories, campus tours, and educational materials distribution. In order to be sensitive to the cultural and linguistic background of the predominantly Latino population served by this program, whenever possible presentations and informational materials were provided in both English and Spanish. The Sweetwater Union High School District provided buses to transport students and parents to the SDSU campus. Local science/health-related organizations provided educational materials that were given to students and their parents.
