The Objectives of the Annual Graduate Symposium in Education are
-
to foster an intra-disciplinary academic community for graduate students in education in which they can exchange knowledge, network with other doctoral programs in education, and be recognized for their contributions,
-
to provide a professional and intellectual stimulating yet non-threatening and low-pressure forum for graduate students to practice presentational skills in research and scholarly activities,
-
to promote research collaborations among tech different graduate programs,
-
to showcase the graduate research and scholarly projects in which our graduate students are engaged to the wider community,
-
to introduce students and faculty to the diversity of research being initiated, in progress, or completed by graduate students.
- Graduates/Doctoral Students from SDSU-USD, USD, SDSU-Claremont and CRMSE-UCSD are invited to present their research at the symposium.
- Masters students from SDSU (including the City Heights Collaborative) and USD are invited to submit proposals for poster presentations.
- All are welcome to attend FREE of charge.
- 15 minute "TALK" followed by a 5-minute "Q. & A." session.
- You are strongly encouraged to use PowerPoint and/or overhead transparencies.
- "POSTER EXHIBIT" in which students can visually display their research on a 3'x4' posterboard or a three-paneled foam board. Students must be present at the Symposium.
Presentation Requirements for Research and Scholarly Projects
- Does not have to be related to a dissertation or thesis (although would be beneficial for students to do so).
- Must be supported by substantial review of literature.
- Can be a review of the literature.
- Can be research that is being initiated, in progress, or completed.
- Must contribute to the field of Education.
- Paper Presentation: Students must fill out a brief proposal form including an abstract (250 words max) by September 1, 2006. Check the "Attendee and Presenter" and the "Talk Presentation" options.
- Poster Presentation: Students must fill out a brief proposal form including a short paragraph abstract by September 1, 2006. Check the "Attendee and Presenter" and the "Poster Presentation" options.
- Attending only: Students register via same proposal form as above and check the "attendee only" option.
- Students selected to present their work will be notified September 8, 2006.
- Students will be prepared to present on September 23, 2006.
- Final registration for attendees is September 15, 2006.

- Documentation: Abstracts and Symposium Proceedings will be published in an anthology.
- Colloquia: The data from the Symposium will be used to design the Colloquia Series for the following year.
