Before you go

Some helpful hints before you leave:

You will need your passport. If it has expired, allow at least 6 weeks prior to your trip to have it updated.

Many hotels and shops accept U.S. dollars in addition to the local currency (Quetzal). Purchase traveler's checks in advance and check current exchange rate.

Pack for a variety of weather. During the rainy season, it can be warm during the day and cool at night, but its a good idea to have a jacket or sweatshirt handy. During the dry season, it can be very chilly at night and in the forest areas of the country.
