Russian 305B Russian Literature of the 20th Century

In this course we read and discuss the works of major Russian 20th century writers: Bulgakov, Pasternak, Akhmatova, Solzhenitsyn. We explore Soviet and post-Soviet Russian literature. We discuss the role of literature in contemporary Russian society. We look into the contribution of women writers in post-Soviet literature and culture. The course is conducted in English and assumes no previous knowledge of Russian language, literature or history.
