Garden Tour at the home of Jim and Barbara Hartung

SDSU Retirement Association Garden tour, luncheon, and time with horticulturist,
journalist and SDSU alumna, Nan Sternan at the home of
Barbara and Jim Hartung June 8, 2005

Their lovely gardens have been featured in several magazines. From the moment we walked down the drive, we realized we were in a unique setting. Their home and garden reflect their worldly travels. We had time to admire the gardens, visit with each other, enjoy a delightful lunch prepared by Barbara Hartung and hear Nan talk about the garden as well as discuss gardening tips. Barbara and Jim moved to their current home from San Carlos in 1976. Jim had become friends with the famous landscape architect Sin Jen when Jim was working his way through college as a "mow and blow" (then "mow and rake") gardener. Sin Jen started out by designing the brick pathways and laying the 14000 bricks that form the foundation of the garden. Jim works every day keeping the garden trimmed and the plants laced.
