• Naming files
Naming files should be pretty easy. But students who grew up on later versions of Windows often get confused about file extensions and file folders. So here is a little primer.
The first thing I am going to suggest is that you reconfigure your windows to give you more information.
So start by opening the "My Computer" Icon on the desktop
    1 2
    View Folder Options
If your screen shows icons, like the one above, then we will modify things to get more information. Don't worry, you can easily undo this later.
    View Details
    Click on View.
If there is no black dot next to the word "Details then click on "Details"
    3 4
    folder_options
Now select View and Folder Options
    • Options Window
    • Your next screen should look like this.
    • Select the tab at the top marked "View"
    5 6
    • folder_options_view.jpg
    • Now you should see this
    • Some of yours may be checked differently. No problem. We will just worry about a few
    • Make sure that the button marked "Show all files" is markedHide Extensions
    • The box marked "Hide file extensions for known file types" should be UNCHECKEDHide Extensions
    • Click Reset all Folders Buttons
    • Click Like Current FolderButtons
    • Click OKok.jpg (1088 bytes)
    • Close the Boxclose.jpg (861 bytes)
