Dr. Penny L. Wright is a professor of management in the College of Business Administration at San Diego State University. She teaches organization theory and behavior, interpersonal processes, human resource management, and power and politics in organizations.
Her research and publication interests relate to the enhancement of the power bases of management and employees in organizations. In 1989, Wright studied Employee Stock Option Plans (ESOP), examining the extent to which employment in a company using an ESOP affects the perceived power of employees and the productivity of the firm, as compared to firms not utilizing this form of equity compensation. She is a frequent guest speaker for professional organizations on topics such as, the promotable woman, time management, and empowerment.
Wright earned her Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine, in Organization Management with emphases in Organizational Behavior and Organization Theory. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the issue of constrained technology and the ways workers integrate their personal needs in light of the limitations imposed on them by an organization's technology. She is also an SDSU alumna, having earned her A.B. and MBA degrees from SDSU.
Wright served four years as Chair of the Department of Management
in the College of Business Administration and served two years as
Associate Dean in the SDSU Graduate Division, during which time she was
responsible for program and course development for SDSU's graduate
programs.
