Requirements
Preparation for the Major
Students interested in entering the major must fulfill the following pre-requisites:
- Cumulative GPA of 2.4 or higher.
- Complete a minimum of 30 semester units.
- Complete POL S pre-requisite courses with a C or better.
Pre-requisites for the Major & Minor -- 9-12 units
(Requirement: Grade of C or better)
- POL S 101 Intro to Am. Pol Global Perspective
- POL S 102 Intro to Am. & Calif. Gov’t Politics
- POL S 103 Intro to Comparative Politics
- POL S 201 Elem. Stat for Poli Sci or equivalent (not req. for Minor)
Major Requirements — 27 additional units
- At least 1 course (3 units each) from EACH of the following fields of emphasis:
Field I. Political Theory
Field II. American Politics
Field III. Comparative Politics
Field IV. International Politics
- Four additional courses (3 units each) in ANY field.
- One capstone course (3 units). Choose ONE of the following options:
Senior Thesis
Internship
Any 500-level POL S course (except 515, 516)
Minor Requirements— 12 additional units
- At least 3 courses (9 units) from ONE of the following fields of emphasis:
Field I. Political Theory|
Field II. American Politics
Field III & IV. Comparative and Int’l Politics
- One additional course (3 units) in ANY field.
