Pamela Alexondra Jackson

Information Literacy Librarian

San Diego State University

In 2005, I joined San Diego State University (SDSU) for the newly created position of Information Literacy Librarian.  For three years prior to my arrival at SDSU, I was a Reference/Instruction Librarian at San Jose State University (SJSU).  I am active in the development of interactive web-based information literacy instruction tools and outreach to diverse student populations.  I've given numerous conference presentations on aspects of library instruction, including plagiarism, educational technologies, and the effects of technology on information literacy teaching and learning.  I hold a M.A. in Library and Information Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a M.A. in English from Sonoma State University.

Current work and research interests include:

exploring virtual worlds for teaching and learning;

developing ‘anytime, anywhere’ customizable resources (such as iGoogle, Facebook, and iPod/iPhone applications);

harnessing the power of social networking platforms to connect to students;

implementing gaming techniques in library instruction;

developing research-based student personas to understand our students’ needs; and,

assessment of student learning in information literacy.
