         What is TRIO?

The Federal TRIO Programs are educational opportunity outreach programs designed to motivate and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes six outreach and support programs targeted to serve and assist low-income, first-generation college, and disabled students to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to postbaccalaureate programs. TRIO also includes a training program for directors and staff of TRIO projects and a dissemination partnership program to encourage the replication or adaptation of successful practices of TRIO projects at institutions and agencies that do not have TRIO grants. The SSS program may also provide grant aid to current SSS participants who are receiving Federal Pell Grants.

Talent Search also serves high school dropouts by encouraging them to reenter the educational system and complete their education.

GOAL: To increase the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in the postsecondary education institution of their choice.

Training Program for Federal TRIO Programs

The Training Program for Federal TRIO Programs provides funding to enhance the skills and expertise of project directors and staff employed in the Federal TRIO Programs.
