Proposal Abstract (75 word maximum): The purpose of the trip was to visit some key European exchange sites to resolve some critical problems that had arisen over the last couple of years. At EPSCI, for example, there arose some issues of security for some of our students residing in some of the older dorms. I needed to see in person the dorm where SDSU students are now housed. In Reutlingen, our partners there complained that no one from SDSU had ever visited the campus in a decade-long relationship. In Lyon, we discussed the possibility of developing an internship exchange. Finally, at ESE in Rome, I spoke with senior administrators concerning late transcripts, promised courses they did not deliver, and the rumor that they were close to losing accreditation.

Travel report:

I. Opening/overview of intentions/activity

See proposal abstract

II. In preparation for the trip abroad

I communicated my concern about the aforementioned problems to representatives of the universities in question. I then realized that the aforementioned problems needed to be addressed in person on site.

III. Upon arrival/specific activity

See proposal abstract

IV. Conclusion, recommendation, and next step?

At EPSCI and ESE, senior administrators assured me that the aforementioned problems would be resolved. At Reutlingen, my counterpart described the processes required to develop a dual-degree program and we agreed to pursue one. At the Bocconi, they rejected our bid to develop an exchange with them because of two programs existing with USD and UCSD. At Lyon, we agreed to pursue an internship program for IB majors.

V. Additional Information

Although this visit did not lead to the development of a number of new programs, it was critical to resolve problems with our current ones.
