WS 596- Women Saints: Their Lives and Their Writings

Course Description:

Exploration of historical, cultural, and political contexts of sainthood and perceptions of holiness for women. The lives and writings of selected Latin American European, and North American women saints will be analyzed from feminist and psychological perspectives. Focus will be on the intersection of individual life histories and psychological processes with the pursuit of holiness in women, including their resistance and accommodation to normative women's roles. Discussion will be based on their own narratives and on hagiographic and critical analyses of their lives.
