Nu Upsilon was chartered May 7, 1977 on the campus of University of California, San Diego. Nu Upsilon is a Citywide Chapter and includes the campuses of University of California San Diego, San Diego State University, University of San Diego, California State University San Marcos, and Point Loma University.

The Nu Upsilon Chapter actively illustrates the organizations motto of Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service. The chapter is known for its acts of service in the community and its commitment to hard work. This can been seen by the execution of various programs within the organizations five point thrust. Nu Upsilon has and will continue to be recognized for continuing the legacy of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated as a service based organization committed to uplifting the community.
