Intel PC Minimum Desktop System

All Intel systems should meet or exceed the Vista Ready requirements

  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.6 GHz or faster (Core duo can be substituted for low-end workstations)
  • Memory: 1 GB RAM; 2 GB or more for some high-end workstations
  • Video RAM: 256 MB or more for some high-end workstations
  • Graphics Board: PCI interface with VGA adapter, PCI Express 16x minimum compliant and capable of supporting at least 1280 X 1024 resolution.
  • NIC: 10/100 BASE-T, Wake-up on LAN (Ref. Brands: Intel, SMC or 3Com)
  • Hard Disk: 120 GB

  • Optical Drive: DVD-RW/CD-RW combo as standard - separate reader and DVD DL burner on some high-end workstations
  • Other Write-able: 1.44 MB Floppy Drive; USB Flash Memory drive (also known as jump, pen, thumb or key drive) [optional, recommended for large file storage]; External ZIP drive with USB interface [optional].
  • USB: At least two (2) front panel ports required; four (4) or more ports are recommended.
  • System Form Factor: All Windows desktop and tower systems will conform to the ATX or mATX (provided it meets the other minimum specifications) form factor specification for system boards (motherboards), cases and power supplies.
  • Main System Board: Must conform to MWSSLS specification.
  • Monitor: 17 inch LCD display or larger conforming to MWSSLS specification. (Ref. Brand: Dell, NEC, Samsung, Sony, Viewsonic)
  • Surge Protector: Capable of EMI/RFI filtering with at least 6 outlets, UPS recommended for some high-end workstations.
  • Mouse: Optical (USB recommended, wheel mouse recommended)
  • Extended Warranty: Covering parts and labor for 3 years

Notes

Please note that a notebook PC with an additional port replicator may also be considered a desktop system, with appropriate justification and provided it meets minimum notebook specs. However, a full-size keyboard, mouse, monitor and surge protector meeting the specs above must still be purchased for the laptop if it is used in desktop mode.
