Apple Minimum MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 Duo) System

  • Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo for minimum; higher Ghz for high-end laptop will depend on your project

  • Memory: 4 GB RAM; 8 GB RAM, when using the laptop as a high-end workstation.

  • Video RAM: 256 MB on the Graphics card; 512 MB for high-end laptops

  • Ethernet: 10/100/1000 BASE-T (built-in).

  • Hard Disk: 320 GB; higher GB, if needed by your projects.

  • Optical Drive:DVD-R (a writable DVD to the -R standard; one of many writable standards)/CD-RW (This drive is a.k.a. Superdrive and recommended)

  • Write-able: USB Flash Memory drive (also known as jump, pen, thumb or key drive) [optional, recommended for large file storage].

  • USB: Bundled, as is FireWire (IEEE-1394); Bluetooth connects digital devices wirelessly and is optional on some models

  • Display: 15-inch (diagonal) built-in TFT (Thin Film Transistor) wide-screen active-matrix display. Video is capable of simultaneous output through external port and laptop display to facilitate presentations. 17-inch display is recommended for high-end laptops. also buy an additional monitor, if using the laptop as the primary desktop. See Multimedia options.

  • Multimedia Option: Mini-DVI out is available on the lower-end PowerBook laptops, while DVI & S-Video out is standard for the higher-end PowerBook laptops. Using a second monitor as part of a desktop-like configuration will require a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter.

  • Wireless Option: AirPort Extreme, 54 Mbps is built-in on all PowerBook laptops.

  • Modem Option: External USB Modem

  • Accessories: Laptop bag (shoulderstrap, padded on all sides) [required]; security cable/lock [required]; second battery and charger [optional]; external USB keyboard and mouse [optional]; mini USB hub [optional]

  • Extended Warranty: Covering parts and labor for 3 years - AppleCare Protection Plan.

Intel Minimum Notebook System (This is for a travel laptop. Laptops used as a primary workstation should match the desktop specifications as closely as possible.)

Notes

A port replicator, along with a full-size monitor, keyboard, and mouse should be puchased if the laptop will also be used as a primary workstation. Always purchase surge protectors (A large six-outlet strip for the primary locations and a smaller unit for travel use) for all laptop use locations as well.
