Meeting in LL-431 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, ChairMAJORTech Program - Aztec Shops
Aztec Shops Marketing Manager, Ben Eisenstein, presented an initiative that Aztec Shops would like to put forth in the summer. Basically it's guidance for students on what hardware/software they would need based on their major. Aztec Shops would have a contact in each college/department who would recommend the best hardware and software options for a particular major. Students could then go to an Aztec Shops website, enter the College and Major, and a screen would be displayed with suggested hardware and software purchase options. They could also place an order for those items directly from this page. This program is strictly voluntary as it is only for students looking for guidance about what computer and /or software they should purchase.Any feedback on this program should be emailed to BenEisenstein@sdsu.edu. He will be looking for contacts from each department.
Minimum Workstation Standards
It's that time of year to review the Minimum Workstations Standards. Please let Diana Osborn know if you see any necessary changes. If none are needed, a reviewed date will be put on the website, so everyone will know it's current.
Academic Affairs Update
- John Ross has received most of the URLs of the websites to be exempt that are not ATI compliant. He will be forwarding them on to the appropriate people.
- Zenworks patch management - figured out how to push out java updates
- Looking for all of Academic Affairs departments to have 90% of their machines under patch management whether Altiris or Zenworks.
Security update
The security plan has been approved by the President's cabinet. Every concept was approved. On April 1st Felecia will begin following up with areas who have milestones. Felecia and Gene are having bi-weekly meetings to review exceptions that have to do with the Security Office.
The CSU is focusing on passwords this year. If you are audited, you can guarantee they'll talk about passwords. All systems are required to comply with password standards whether or not the system has level 1 data.Software Updates
- New Dell Representative - The new sales representative for Dell Software is Matthew Lauer. If you want to login and get your own quote, contact Matthew Lauer for a login. Matthew has been assigned to service our campus, so turnaround time for quotes should improve.
- RFP Year for Selecting new LAR - It's that time of year to review the RFP for our software sales. A decision has to be made to go with Dell again or someone else. Celia Chavez, Chris Clements, and Ken Packer are on the committee. The process will start in April and it should be awarded in July.
- Minitab - Minitab has been committed to for another year. We will be getting the new keys soon.
- Microsoft Software - Most of the department contacts have picked up Microsoft Office 2013.
- McAfee - The McAfee contract ends September 29, 2013. McAfee's Advanced EndPoint Protection Suite looks to be too costly, so a renewal of what we currently have may be considered. Discussion then ensued to see if we should add 400 licenses of HIPS (Host Intrusion Protection) for BFA and then add additional HIPS licenses as we go. Also discussed was the possibility of adding licenses to cover mobile devices. McAfee tentatively will be coming out to give a presentation in May. The MWSSLS, Security and SysAdmin groups will be invited to attend the McAfee presentation event. The tentative date is May 10th.
Next MWSSLS meeting will be April 18, 2013.
