Meeting in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, ChairAcademic Affairs Update
ATI remediation is being reviewed in Academic Affairs. A meeting will be scheduled with department ATI contacts for next week. Departments are being asked to do three things to bring the number of site ATI failures down.
- Delete websites that are no longer needed.
- Make sure that all images have an alt-tag.
- When a pages contains content that requires a a standalone viewer (like PDF requires Adobe Reader) provide a link to download the viewer.
A suggestion was made to put up sample code where webpage editors can find it. A link to a Word Reader was also discussed. Joining the webdev mailing list could give web editors additional assistance for their sites.
Minimum Workstation Committee
There are currently two volunteers for the minimum workstation sub-committee to update the minimum specifications for PC's and Macs. Please email Diana Osborn if you are interested in volunteering.ROHAN Upgrade/Matlab
ROHAN will be upgraded to new hardware during Spring break and there is a new Matlab License server. Here's the message Ron Nash sent out to ROHANINFO users:ROHAN will be down most of Monday, March 26th for a hardware upgrade. The Sun F4800 server will be replaced by an Oracle Sun T4-2 server. I hope to have ROHAN back up before 3PM. However, there is a slight chance the upgrade could go longer.
Updates will be posted on http://status.sdsu.edu
Please note this affects all ROHAN services, including email, web hosting, Matlab and Maple license servers.
Please note a new Matlab license server running on metztli.sdsu.edu. You can point your Matlab clients to metztli on port 1701 now to avoid having Matlab down during the upgrade. To switch to using metztli, update the license.lic file to contain:
SERVER metztli INTERNET=130.191.17.84 1701

Encryption Software
The topic of encryption software was tabled until the next MWSSLS meeting. The CSU Information Security Advisory Committee lists encryption as one of its initiatives for next fiscal year. The ISAC meet March 20th/21st to discuss their initiatives and that I will provide an update next meeting on their status. It may be advantageous for SDSU to join the CSU ISAC group rather than tackle this issue as an individual campus.Kapersky
Kapersky, an antivirus software company, met with IT managers regarding their product. They had nothing to offer over that of our current antivirus software. Kapersky left a stack of free home use licenses (good for 6 months). Felecia will bring these to the next MWSSLS meeting. Kapersky would like to be considered the next time our antivirus software is re-evaluated.There are also a lot of Department emails that have not been claimed. Send all questions to etshelpdesk@mail.sdsu.edu.
MWSSLS Website
The current MWSSLS website will be undergoing major upgrade. If you have any comments regarding the structure, resources, etc. please email Diana Osborn.Next MWSSLS meeting will be April 19, 2012.
