ITS Update
Meeting in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, Chair
Blackboard System Admin position is being recruited now and the contract for the software has been renewed. Based on acquisitions by Blackboard, Wimba is going through a merger with Illuminate and the resulting product will be renamed Collaborate. The contract for this software is in the process of being renewed. ITS is planning to be supporting Wimba for Fall 2012 along side Collaborate. Smart Classrooms are being refreshed and some will be sporting a new more accessible podium. The new podium has a smaller footprint (all dimensions are reduced), the extra connections cubby is lower, a monitor with handles on its sides is installed on a movable arm, and no keys will be required for the user. It will have the same control panel the other relatively new podiums have. Two Adams Humanities classrooms are being enlarged from ~30 seats to ~70 seats. New ~400 and ~300 seat lecture rooms will come online with the remodeled Storm and Nasatir Hall buildings. The existing Smart Classroom equipment from these buildings will be used to refresh older Smart Classrooms in the EBA building. Also 12 modular (trailer) Smart Classrooms will be located at O&P lots (aka "Montezuma Mesa"), which will alleviate the classroom shortage during the renovation period for Storm and Nasatir Halls. ITS has been seeing less of a demand for Video conferencing and more demand for Web conferencing. If your department is interested in using this type of conferencing or has questions, please contact John Rizzo or Marc Pastor. Academic Affairs Update
The standard campus site licensed software has been renewed. In process is the renewal of Xwin 32 from Starnet and Academic Affairs is looking at a renewal of Zenworks. ATI Update
Campus Vice Presidents have received a report that details 'failed' web sites for ATI Compliance. If you are requesting an exemption, please communicate with the appropriate contact person within your division since the exemption reports are due to Rich Pickett by July 15th. Remember that sites that fail to meet our ATI requirements still need to comply with the following requirement: Alternative Information Access. If website accessibility issues cannot be remedied, and an exception is approved, it is the responsibility of the website publisher to provide alternative access to the information and communicate that process to users of their web pages. John Ross is sending an email about the exceptions process and a required sign-off to the Deans and IT Managers. CNI Update
The Common Network Infrastructure (CNI) program is an ongoing effort to maintain and modernize CSU networks as technology advances and user needs evolve. The CNI program is centrally funded, CSU-wide, and provides network electronics and services to State-owned and operated facilities. Currently, the CNI equipment deployment is targeted over a 3-month period, it will occur between June and August of 2012. This will be a very aggressive deployment, with multiple crews working, and multiple buildings being upgraded almost every day. The start of the project has had its bumps in the road. TNS has found the AT&T schedule not very realistic, as it is taking on average twice as long as expected for the installations. Also scripts that were run did not match in some buildings, and uplink gear created network instabilities. Now the vendor is coming down to assist and see our issues. TNS will be expanding the time for cutovers in July, which may bump a building floor to the next day on the schedule. A new schedule will be posted by next week. If any department is running their own DHCP service, please inform Kent McKelvey ahead of your cutover date. TNS will need to consolidate these departmental DHCP services into the central server to avoid problems. Designated technicians are set to respond to network issues after each cutover, so please report all cutover issues to the ETS Help Desk. The desk staff will forward your reports to the designated technicians. Google Update
Google will be replacing the Document service with the new Drive service. Azteclink is now handling automatic email notifications on required Gmail password changes, as well as notifying users of expiring OneCards. Messages are sent one a week for 3 weeks, then after the deadline every day. ETS is working on clearing out accounts that have never been claimed or never been used. Security Update
The campus physical inventory of assets has focused on Academic Affairs this fiscal year. Please note: The Lost/Stolen Equipment process requires Cost Center Managers to complete the process (including calling Public Safety dispatch for a Police Report Number and obtaining an associated ITSO Number) and file the paperwork with Felecia Vlahos by June 30, 2012. Without this completed process, the campus cannot remove lost/stolen assets from your department's inventory records. Other News
