Meeting in EBA-338 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, ChairITS Update
Both Storm & Nasitir Halls will be remodeled in the Spring. The SMART classrooms are being dismantled. Portable trailers will be set up in November to replace 14 classrooms until the remodel is complete. The trailers will be located west of the Music Building and south of the ENS building, by the old tennis courts. The dismantling of Storm Hall has already begun with rooms 144, 145, 147, 149, 152, 154, 240 and 346 being off the schedule for the Fall semester.
All SMART gear must be out of Storm Hall by January 19, 2011.
There will be 2 new large SMART classrooms west of Storm Hall after the remodel. One will seat 300 and one will seat 500.
Adams Humanities 1120 is being used to store the SMART gear that will be going into the Portable buildings.
IT Security meetings have been rescheduled to Love Library 410, as AH 1120 will not be available at all this year. Other meetings that use AH 1120 will also need to be rescheduled if they are not already.
Zenworks – Things are leveling off and versions are current.
Clickers: A patch from the clicker company (eInstruction / CPS) is necessary for the SMART classrooms. ITS completed the software patch installations on September 20, 2010.
The new system in the Aztec Athletics Auditorium, Room 1014, is up and running.
Tom Voss reports that some shuttles do not work with Zenworks.
Academic Affairs Update
McAfee is expiring. There has been a call out to Academic Affairs College Leads for PC counts. They are expected to be back by Monday, September 20. Per Celia, if the counts are in by the end of the month (September), we will get a huge price break. There will be new added products built into the Suite but we will not have details until later. One of the findings on one of our Security audits was related to Foundation Projects and the PC hardware used over in Foundation. The Foundation equipment needs to be included in McAfee licensing and Patch Management licensing. The projects counterparts in Academic Affairs are responsible to see that this is accomplished on the Foundation equipment as well as their own.
Qualtrics Presentation
The Qualtrics Presentation is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on September 23, 2010 in the FIT Center, AH 1109. Carol Tohsaku will send an email confirming this information and is asking for feedback on what software colleges are currently using for surveys. Numbers will be very helpful as well as any input on likes and dislikes of the currently used software.Email/Calendaring Update
There was a status conference call last week with Google. There are two main points still in negotiation.
- Attachment size needs to be larger
- Data housing location must be only in the United States
Google needs to confirm information on both points and should get back to us within 2 weeks.
Tentatively, the schedule is to migrate email beginning the end of December, early January, with the Calendaring coming after. Training sessions would be scheduled for October/November and will start with system administrators and area representatives. Currently, they are offering a 25 megabyte limit on the attachment size. We want 100 megabytes. The data storage location issue could possibly be a deal breaker. We will still have our individual email clients, i.e. Eudora, Outlook. Google will be replacing the Mirapoint system.
Tom Voss, Health & Human Services is concerned with not having licenses for Transcend, which BFA used to migrate their clients from Eudora to Outlook. The cost is about $7.00 per client (volume purchase price). Connie has offered to give Tom remaining Transcend licenses that were not used by BFA for the migration. Tom is most appreciative!!! If any licenses are still left, BFA is willing to share the remainder.
A site has not yet been determined for the user training.
Security Plan
The Security Plan was adopted by the Cabinet early July. Early next month, the plan will be posted on the security web site. The training/Security Awareness page will be available soon. In the meantime new trainees will still be receiving their link from workplaceanswers.com as they are enrolled. If you have users that are concerned about these emails being fraudulent, have them email iso@sdsu.edu.Software Licensing Update
Per John Ross, all purchase orders have been issued for all current site licensed software. Most vendors are releasing the site licenses in spite of the fact that payment is still contingent upon the State budget being signed. The exception is SAS. They must have full payment prior to releasing any licensing. The current license expires September 30 with a 90 day grace period to follow. Then on January 1, if there is still no payment, SAS will issue a 30 day extension if no budget has been signed.Tom Voss has concerns that after the initial 30 day grace period, the programs will need to be uninstalled and reinstalled on each PC which is time consuming for HHS. Per Celia, unfortunately, there is no way around this with SAS. They are firm and always have been.
Celia Chavez Relocation
Celia has been relocated to the ETS HelpDesk in the Library, LL200. She has joined Connie's group. Her phone number remains the same.Next meeting will be October 21, 2010 in EBA-410.
