ITS Update
Installation of the Aztec Mesa (AMSA) grouping of portable buildings located between Music and Viejas Arena is starting. These will be smart classrooms to replace those going offline for the Storm Hall renovation. Architectural work on the smaller classrooms is underway, following on the planning for the new larger rooms (300 and 500 seats).

ITS is seeking funding for Round 3 of smart classroom computer replacement/updates.

ITS is continuing its lecture capture pilot, using Camtasia Relay, in several large classrooms. ITS is looking at options for expanding the pilot beyond the client-based approach to an appliance-based system such as Echo 360.

ITS has been working with faculty and with eInstruction, the campus standard clicker system provider, to get through challenges that have occurred this fall due to several bugs in the latest software releases. While we will continue to support eInstruction through the spring semester, the standardization decision will be revisited.

Deployment of Blackboard 9.1 has been pushed back to summer from the previous target of winter break to allow adequate time for the necessary infrastructure upgrades. ITS is still hoping to have an installation of Bb 9.1 available this spring for some faculty to pilot.

Calls will go out soon to faculty for two different course redesign opportunities this spring. The Fast-Track Course Design Institute will offer about a dozen faculty the opportunity to redesign a high-demand course for offering as a fully online course in the summer session. There will also be a CDI cohort focused on the use of online writing support tools for students offered by publishers Pearson and Cengage.

Qualtrics
Rofiee Harun gave an update on the Qualtrics Survey program.  He attended the presentation given last month.  He found the program to be sophisticated, yet easy to set up and easy to use.  It has an accessibility check and is HIPAA compliant.  The cost for a university-wide license is between $25,000 - $30,000 a year.  License could also be purchased at a college level. Qualtrics will be giving a demonstration on campus again today from 2:30-3:30 for interested parties.

Free trial accounts can be set up at http://sdsuuw.qualtrics.com and are good through December.

Email/Calendaring Update
Nothing new to report on the email/calendaring – still performing testing and will be taking to Google some more. Would like to get training underway.
