The course design institute is being held next week. If you haven't already registered, go to cdi.sdsu.edu and do so. Registration closes May 21, 2010.ITS will be refreshing 14 smart classrooms and installing 3 new smart classrooms this summer. 120 computers will be replaced.
ITS is moving forward with active directory deployment to manage all computers remotely in the classrooms.
PG-153 has complete LED lighting in the classroom. The first one on campus and possibly at any university in the US.
SDSU is offering 43 online classes this summer, 30 of which have been developed over the last three years with assistance from ITS and support from the provost office. These are high-demand undergraduate courses - please spread the word to raise awareness of this great opportunity for students to get courses they need to stay on track for graduation.
ITS has been interviewing to hire a baseline position for Blackboard support and are close to filling the position.
This summer ItunesU will be added to blackboard, and ITS will move forward with Lecture Capture.
During winter break 2010/2011, Blackboard 9.1 will be installed.
Windows 7 and Office 2010
A discussion was held regarding the installation and use of Windows 7 and Office 2010. The Library is putting Windows 7 on all public machines this summer. Science and Enrollment Services will be rolling out all their new equipment with Windows 7.If anyone is not migrating to Windows 7, Windows XP must be on at least Service Pack 3 due to Security issues.
The Oracle Client software does not support the 64 bit version of Windows 7.
Attendees were reminded that BATS no longer exists. The FIT center can answer questions on basic software questions and community colleges have free courses for basic software such as MS Office. @One offers low cost classes.
Email Update
The email sub-committee is currently testing google calendaring and are matching it to Meeting Maker for comparison and differences. Implementation of the Identity Management System is in progress. This is the key to establishing migration of email. The committee is investigating Google to replace Mira Point. IT areas will need to be aware of the changes to client software to assist their college/area. The committee will provide a document of changes that users should be aware of.If the Identity Management Program is completed on time, and the email committee decides to go with Google, the migration is estimated to take place around December. Email and Meeting Maker migration to Google is anticipated to occur at about the same time in December.
SAS 9.2/Office 2010
SAS 9.2 is now available. Connie has it at the ETS helpdesk for qualified faculty and staff. SAS 9.2 is certified to run on Windows 7.Office 2010 is ready for release. Send Celia Chavez an email if you need a copy. She will respond with an email when it is ready for pick up. Machines that are upgrading from Vista Ultimate must update to Windows Ultimate. There is no path for Vista Ultimate to Windows Enterprise.
Security Plan
The security plan is in its final stage of updates. A link to the updated security plan will be sent out within the next two weeks. Many appendices have been removed and put into web pages. Changes include credit card storage compliance, text added on how incidents are handled, some procurement policies have been added, the committees section has been revamped to reflect the dissolution of IACC. The IT Security Office is requesting feedback on the plan.Minimum Workstation Specs
The PC minimum workstation specs have been updated. Look at them online and let Diana Osborn know if any further changes are needed. Please make any updates to the existing wording so the change is clear.Power Management Project
Library and Extended Studies have software and keys for the Power Management software. Carol Phillips will be assisting LARC in obtaining software and rebate information when she returns from vacation in two weeks. The rebate offer is good for two years if anyone else would like to participate in the power management project.Green SDSU
A presentation was given to the MWSSLS committee by Steve Lincoln on campus green efforts.Next meeting will be June 17, 2010.
