Mail Status
Connie English stated for those doing an Eudora to MS Outlook transfer might want to use Transcend Migrator.  ETS bought this tool and has had good results from it.  The tool is automatic, doesn’t lose info, and handles large attachment directories.  For purchasing and contact information, please email her at cenglish@mail.sdsu.edu

Following is the vendor and BFA ADS contact info.

The campus is continuing their investigation of Gmail suitability to take over the duties of our current mail.sdsu.edu server. Gmail has sent a statement assuring that our CSU mail would be kept in the USA.  ETS is testing and verifying a list of requirements and probably will have a decision by March.  The email address of .sdsu.edu would remain for all users. A Google decision would save the $300,000 the campus is currently spending on the mail contract.  Connie mentioned the change would be transparent and Monterey Bay has already successfully migrated fac/staff accounts as of Fall ’09 (Exchange to Gmail).

AA Update
CATS will be a virtual conference again this year with April 13-15 as the dates for the conference.

ATI compliance audit report just recently released noted a higher number of failures as new parameters were used.  A new approach is being planned and will work with Colleges on the administrative sites that are getting the most hits first.  Everyone should make their <ALT> tags their main target, as they are easy to fix and are voluminous in numbers.

Log Management progress included a recent SPLUNK demo.  It brought out the fact – while easy to put stuff into the log reports, getting the information out was a lot of work.  The campus is planning on backing off a little on the requirements for log management and talking more with system administrators and MWSSLS members.

ITS Update
Marc Pastor announced the new classrooms in the College Square building (4) and in the Library (4).  All are Smart Classrooms.

Next meeting will be February 18, 2010.
