Security Report
Department meetings – The IT Security Office has now completed meetings with half of the Academic departments regarding compliance with the security plan.  Academic Colleges/Departments submit their milestones to John Ross, all other campus Departments need to submit their milestones to Felecia Vlajos Vlahos.

Security Awareness –On March 23rd, 4,782 faculty/staff members will receive an email directing them to take a Security Awareness online course. The group receiving the email includes auxiliaries and people employees who have access to Protected Level 1 information. Those who have access to Protected level 2 educational record information will receive the email in April. For those individuals who do not fall into either category but wish to take the course should send an email to iso@sdsu.edu. The course takes approximately 45 minutes and does not have to be completed all at once.

Emails regarding the course will come from workplaceanswers.com. Be sure to have them whitelisted on your email servers.

PCI compliance -  The IT Security Office will be starting to investigate assess PCI compliance beginning March 24th. They will be looking at all aspects of credit card processing by the university, auxiliary's and 3rd party vendors affiliates.

Power Outage
UCO requires one more power outage to bring up the UPS’.  The power outage will be March 29th from midnight to 8:00 am.

Notify Link
UCO is finishing up documentation and rate information.  Notify Link will be going into production on April 1st.  The cost will be a one time charge of $40 to $50 with an ongoing $5 monthly fee.

Log Management
Departments should work with Felecia Vlahos on their milestones for log management.

There will be a Prism webinar on their log management system on Friday March 20th.  Time and login information will be emailed to the MWSSLS group.

SPSS 17
SPSS 17 has now been released to faculty and staff.  The Mac version of this software will only run on Intel Macs.  Non-Intel Macs can run SPSS 16, but it is extremely slow.  Older versions of the software will only be supported until April.

McAfee for Macs
On older Macs, McAfee 8.x ties up a major portion of the processor so that the response of the system is barely useable.  The fix for this has been to install 7.7 instead (which will run on the new OS versions but is not recommended unless the above problem is showing up).   The last DATs for 7.7 seem to be from October (vs 6.x still up to date -- Classic macs).   For newer Macs,  8.6.1 is the recommended version for Mac since it has resolved a number of issues we were seeing with the earlier 8.x versions.

Next meeting will be April 16, 2009.
