Minimum Workstation and Software Site License Subcommittee Minutes

----------------------------------------------------------------------

February 19, 2009
Meeting in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, Chair

Splunk
Directly after the MWSSLS meeting, SPLUNK will do a presentation on their log management system.  Everyone is invited to attend.

SPSS
Celia Chavez stressed the importance of SPSS 16 users applying critical patches to their software.

Because a  patch and hot fix for SPSS 17 has now been received by the campus, the software will be released at the end of March.

iWorks and iLife
The campus has received discount pricing for iLife and iWorks.  A campus order is being compiled and will be sent to Aztec Shops tomorrow.  If you would like iLife and/or iWorks, contact Celia Chavez to be added to the order.

McAfee Antivirus/Antispyware Update
The McAfee contract was renewed in December, and additional licenses for Spyware were obtained. Divisions will be contacted soon for McAfee Chargeback information.  The new grant number will only be released to those divisions providing chargeback information.

The campus contract for Counterspy is up in October and may not be renewed.

Security Awareness Training Update
The Security Office is in the process of collecting all employee email addresses. Here is the timeline for the Security Awareness Training:

Rich Pickett requested that users send feedback on the training course to the Security Office.

A suggestion was made to  set up a training portal webpage with all HR training links.  The current email sent out by workplace.com  for training looks like a phony email, thus,  some faculty/staff are leery of clicking on the link in the email. Workplace.com is the company that has been hired by the Chancellor’s Office for the creation of the various training.

Meeting Maker/Notify Link
Once the chargeback and documentation for Notify Link is completed, Notify Link will be released. A notice will be sent to the MWSSLS group announcing its availability.

CATS Conference
Due to budget constraints, the CATS conference, previously planned to be at SDSU in April, will be an online conference.  The first CATS online conference will be May 6-8, 2009.   When the budget allows the CATS conference to return to a campus, it will be scheduled at SDSU.

Power Outage
The scheduled outage of campus network, internet and EBA Data Center has been rescheduled to Sunday March 1, midnight - 8 a.m.

Miscellaneous
Celia Chavez will now be receiving quarterly reports on software licensing purchases by ASAP.  This will allow her to determine if all required software license purchases by departments have been made.

Next meeting will be March 19, 2009.
