Minimum Workstation and Software Site License Subcommittee Minutes

----------------------------------------------------------------------

August 20, 2009
Meeting in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, Chair

Captivate
Captivate is being used a lot by PICT and ITS. There are no longer funds available to support these licenses without department funds.  There are at least 124 licenses on campus.  Captivate 4 is now available, but most users are using Captivate 2.  Users must buy a license for Captivate 4 to be able to use Captivate 2.  Celia Chavez will look into the pricing for a 500 volume license.

Camtasia and Captivate are similar products.  A comparison needs to be made of the two products. Diana Osborn will get the quote for a 500 volume license for Camtasia.

Survey Monkey
Tabled until next month.  Carol Tohsaku and Rofiee Harun will work together reviewing Survey Monkey, Survey Gizmo, Student Voice, and any other possible survey product to see which one is best for our needs.

Log Management
No update.

Patch Management
There has now been a successful installation of Patch Management.  The secondary piece of this installation will be done this afternoon.  Diana Osborn will look up price for Patchlink so a comparison in price and functionality can be made to Altiris.  Altiris is $30 for the initial price and $7.50 for renewal price.

Counter Spy
The testing is concluding for Counter Spy and McAfee.  Connie English will bring results together and determine if we want to go forward with Counter Spy.  Anyone currently using Counter Spy should contact Connie with information on how it is working for their area, good or bad, and if it would be a problem if Counter Spy was not renewed.

SPSS
New codes have been sent out for SPSS 17, patch 02.  Downloading the patch is very slow.  If desired, a CD can be obtained from Celia Chavez with the patch already installed.  Codes for SPSS 11 for Mac and SPSS 15 for PC can still be obtained from Celia until SPSS has solved the issues with the current versions.

SAS
Codes for SAS have not been received yet.  The vendor won’t release codes until payment has been received by the campus. John Ross is checking into this.

Minitab
Minitab 15.1 is current version.  Celia has received the license file for anyone who needs it.

Windows 7
Celia Chavez now has the codes for Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows Ultimate.  An email will be sent out when the media is available.  Celia will find out the bookstore availability for Windows 7 home use.

A Microsoft technician will be coming to the Sys Admins meeting on September 11, 2009 at 10:00 am to discuss the upgrade of Windows XP to Windows 7.  Email Diana Osborn if you want to meet with the Microsoft tech individually.

Miscellaneous
The new IT Manager liaison at MWSSLS is Connie English as Bob Newhouse is retiring.

MiraPoint and Meeting Maker licenses are both coming up for renewal in the next year.  In the fall, email will be looked at for possible changes.  Outsourcing to something like Google will also be considered.

The Identity Management System has made great progress.  It is now in production and talking to Meeting Maker and MiraPoint.  Final testing will be done and then it will be rolled out. The project is called Azteclink and the website can be viewed at http://azteclink.sdsu.edu

Next meeting will be September 17, 2009.
