Meeting in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, ChairSAS
There will be no new SAS codes until the budget is signed and SAS gets paid. If you need SAS, install it before September 30th (when our current codes expire). Once you install SAS, you will have 90 days of use before the program stops and new codes are required.AMP
Celia Chavez received a 3-year quote for Apple for the Apple Maintenance Program (AMP). She was quoted $79 per Apple computer for 3 years of operating system software update coverage (which is the "under 1,000 computers" price). Since SDSU has more than 1,000 Macs, we should be paying the "over 1,000" price of $59 each. Celia will be asking Rich Pickett to call Apple and negotiate the lower price. If there are any updates to this, Celia will email the MWSSSL's email list.Minimum Specs Status
Since the Minimum workstation specifications for the PC's have not been updated since 2007, staff from the College of Sciences are currently reviewing them. Diana will approve final changes and have the MWSSLS website updated.Email Committee
Several people volunteered to be on the Email Committee. The first meeting will be held on October 15th at 1:00 p.m. in Bob Newhouse's office (EBA-115). The committee will discuss what direction the campus should take regarding an email client and will then report back to the MWSSLS committee. If you are not on the committee but want to be, there is still time. Contact Bob Newhouse to participate.Meeting Maker NotifyLink
MM Notify Link should be in place the first part of October. Notify Link will involve a chargeback to the departments. The chargeback price has not yet been determined.
Patch Management
ZenWorks Patch Management V6.4 (Patch Link) has been purchased. The College of Sciences is putting together a pilot installation, which will be available via a virtualized arrangement to anyone wanting to test it before implementation. The target date for software installation on the new server is mid-October. Email Diana if you are interested in access.
Security Audit
The Security audit has been completed and the IT Security Office is working on closing audit points. A new tool will be installed on ROHAN to search files containing SSN's on campus computers. John Ross is researching tools to be used for log management and to create alerts.Miscellaneous
Anyone interested in obtaining Parallels should email Diana Osborn with the number of copies needed. She will be investigating obtaining a license agreement that includes maintenance.McAfee engine downloads will not be available from McAfee after September 29th until the new contract has been negotiated and paid. Users will still be able to obtain the DAT files from McAfee. All the available engines as of September 29th will be available on ROHAN as well as the DAT files.
Next meeting will be October 16, 2008.
