Meeting in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, ChairEmail Committee
The Email Committee held their first meeting on October 15th. The committee will be recommending specifications for email packages rather than recommending one specific email package for Mac and one for Windows. The next committee meeting will be October 27th and plans to have a recommendation by the November MWSSLS meeting.Information Security Plan Implementation Meetings
John Ross will be meeting with each Academic Affairs department/college over the next six months as an outcome of the security audit. Meetings will pertain to the security plan, the department/colleges assessment form and a timeline for implementation of pending security items. Departmental assessment checklists (one for each college) will be submitted to John Ross prior to the meetings. Since colleges may have more that one IT department the answers should reflect the state of the least prepared IT departments within the college. This will pinpoint vulnerabilities that need to be addressed. The meetings will commence in November with Engineering and Enrollment Services. Felecia Vlahos will be meeting with Student Affairs, Foundation, Auxiliaries, etc. in tandem with the Academic Affairs meetings.AMP
- New Apple Engineer, Chris Cummins.
- Snow Leopard will not be released until 2009
- Licenses on Macs no longer in use can be used on new equipment
- Celia will let departments know what machines are already covered by AMP
- Must have 1000+ new AMP participants to receive pricing at $59 each
- Must have 100+ new AMP participants to receive pricing at $79 each
- Need to start new AMP at least one month prior to the release of Snow Leopard
- Should we enter into AMP before December or wait on the Budget revise?
AntiVirus/AntiSpyware
Each department/college should send the number of AntiVirus/AntiSpyware licenses needed to Celia Chavez. If you’re not going to renew your McAfee, let Celia know. Numbers are needed by the end of October. The current AntiVirus software expires in December and the McAfee AntiSpyware expired the end of September. It was suggested that a group is needed to evaluate several AntiVirus/AntiSpyware products. Felecia mentioned that efforts should be made on patch management, EPO, log management, etc. since McAfee is sufficient for the present.
Patch Management
The pilot installation is currently being reviewed for firewall. It is anticipated that the product installation will take place the week of Thanksgiving.SPSS
It is extremely important that everyone patch SPSS V. 16. Celia is now distributing the SPSS CD with the patches on it. SPSS V17 for PC and Mac should arrive next week. Celia will test before releasing and contact users when it is available.SAS
SAS won’t release the license file until they have been paid. Until that time, there can be no new installs of the software. Bob Newhouse will track down the invoice to get SAS paid. SAS 9.2 is certified to run on Vista and will be released when payment has been made.Parallels/VMWare/Sun VirtualBox
Parallels and VMWare are currently available from the Bookstore. Sun’s VirtualBox is freeware. As time permits, interested users should check it out.Log Management Committee
A log management committee was formed. Membership will remain open until October 21st. The IT Managers will determine the committee’s charge and scope at their next meeting. At that time, Diana will send an email to all committee members with the charge and requesting them to meet.Next meeting will be November 20, 2008.
