Meeting in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
Rich Pickett, Acting ChairMeeting Maker Status
The new PC and Mac (supports Leopard) clients will be pushed out this week in the background according to an email sent out by Bob Newhouse on August 19th. Several at the meeting inquired about the list used for that email, since some did not receive the message. Bob said he would look into this issue. The server upgrade to the new version is scheduled for the 29th with September 2nd being the day everyone must switch clients. At that point, the users will be prompted with the installation of new client software. A step-by-step guide for the upgrade
is available on the BFA website at:Also available at that URL are:
1. Manual installation procedure for users who are unable to receive the automatic client push.
2. Meeting Maker client software for Windows and Mac.
3. Documentation for the Meeting Maker software.
4. Other documentation relating to Meeting Maker
5. Any last minute changesSince the installation of the client requires Administrative rights on the computer, some users may need to use the web version of Meeting Maker until their IT staff can do the install.
After this initial upgrade, the following services will be available: Meeting Maker Stand Alone Client, Meeting Maker Web, and Meeting Maker Connector for Outlook. In the coming weeks we will make available an additional over the air sync using NotifyLink for users who have WiFi/data capable devices. NotifyLink will bridge to cell phones. The final phase of the upgrade will be the integration with our LDAP directory services.
Security Audit
Next week campus representatives (ITSO and IT managers) will meet with the auditors to go over the results of the security audit. This was a 2 part audit with KPMG focusing on the technical aspects and the Chancellor's Office handling process and procedure issues. Foundstone software will provide a list of the vulnerabilities for system administrators and the findings will be discussed with campus groups (Business Affairs and Academic Affairs). Future audits will happen every 2 years with a 6-month period after each to resolve problems.Eudora's End of Life
At the last IT Managers meeting, discussion was held on Eudora's End of Life planning. The IT Managers would like to solicit input from MWSSLS's membership on what the campus should use as a replacement. Should it be a single client or multiple clients (I.E. Thunderbird, Penelope, Outlook, Mail, etc.). Volunteers were requested by Bob Newhouse for an Eudora Focus Group. Jim Edwards and Don McKee stepped forward as initial members. If you would like to volunteer for the Eudora Focus Group, please email Bob Newhouse.Minimum Specs Status
It was noted that the Macintosh specifications were updated on June 30th, but the Intel PC specifications are over a year old.Software News
SPSS license codes for the new version are in Celia Chavez's hands. Please contact her via email, if you need them. Please note - In her recent announcement concerning SPSS, she attached a required document that must be completed and returned to her listing who is using SPSS in your area.SAS codes will expire at the end of September. Please note - SAS requires payment (check in hand) before they will release new codes to the campus. Please note - the new 9.2 version is 64-bit compatible but has a 2.5 hour installation; earlier versions are easier to install.
Minitab is now an unlimited site license that includes students. Students can download the software from ROHAN, while faculty/staff must make arrangements through their IT staff and Celia Chavez.
Deep Freeze's new version media is now available from Celia Chavez. Those units in need of the upgrade for their existing licenses should contact Celia.
McAfee is set to expire on September 29th for downloading of the engine. The campus is looking into including Counterspy in the renewal.
Microsoft Server contract was renewed two years ago and is coming up for the renewal process again. We need a count of everyone's MS Windows Server boxes again, as there were 240 prepaid licenses last time and we want to handle those the same way again. Please look at what server products you have that were prepaid before. There will be a Chancellor's Office memo coming about this soon.
ASAP/Dell is our current reseller and the renewal of the contract (end of December 2008) is quickly approaching. If anyone would like to send a letter of recommendation that ASAP/Dell remain our reseller, please send you letters to Matt Radzinski.
Aztec Shops is continuing to have discounts on software for faculty/staff.
Apple's AMP program normally has renewed around this time, but as of yet Celia has not heard anything from Apple. She will be looking into this shortly. Please note - There is a $59 charge per Apple computer for 3 years of operating system software update coverage.
ATI Update
Discussion was held on the three part deadline for ATI. The administrative portion deadline is November 15, 2008. Instructional materials and procurement deadlines are further out. It was noted that the first deadline for procurement would cover those purchases above $15000 with each years deadline for purchases having a lower amount until all purchases are covered. The recent scan of web sites by Chris Friedl will be done 4 times a year.
Next meeting will be September 18, 2008.
