May 19, 2005
Meeting in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, Chair

Software Survey
A software survey was sent out by Linda Burton. The survey requests information on how much money departments spent on all individual purchases of software for the year.

Minimum Workstation Standards
The minimum workstations standards are now posted and updated on the web at http://www-rohan.sdsu.edu/~mwssls/mws.html. The committee for next years standards will begin meeting in July.

Tiger
Tiger was released on April 29, 2005. The media is currently being distributed on campus. The media for Tiger is on DVDs. When the media is released on CDs, Celia will make an announcement to MWSSLS. There are concerns about Excel and SPSS using Tiger. The new version of SPSS doesn't work with Tiger. We are waiting for an SPSS patch before distributing it. Diana Osborn mentioned that any version of Disk Utilities prior to 10.3.9 should not be used on 10.4. It will report errors when there are none. It doesn't recognize the extended attributes. It was also stated that Safari in 10.4 gives an error message when attempting to print to an HP printer. This problem has been reported to Apple.

SPSS for Windows, Version 13
UCO is not recommending use of version 13 of SPSS for windows. The SPSS software installs extra software that the campus is not licensed for. The software installs in trial version (only good for 14 days from 1st time used). SPSS does not inform you that this is trial software. Fortunately, the campus is licensed for AnswerTree and this will solve user issues if they happen to use one of the 4 trial components. Celia Chavez emailed the Chancellor's Office with the SPSS complaint.

If faculty want SPSS, Version 13, they need to know there are issues that will have to be dealt with.

EPO Training
The next EPO training session will be on June 2nd in ESC-207 at 8:00 a.m.

Windows XP 64 bit
SDSU is now licensed for Windows XP 64 bit, the server version is also included. If you have a server license and you want to get the 64 bit version, you can replace one of your server licenses with this. If you want an additional license you need to contact the following individuals: Academic Affairs - Sandy Neer; Student Affairs - Long Vang; Business Affairs - BIDS.

Annual Chancellor's Office Survey
The annual Chancellor's Office survey was distributed to Associate Dean's of each College, and it should be filtered to IT contacts. Changes have been made to the spreadsheet making it easier to update. The updated spreadsheet will be emailed out. All questions should be directed to Carol Tohsaku. Charles Hurley will also be collecting data. The deadline for submission is June 6th.

BATS Workshop
The summer BATS workshops will begin on June 13th. On-line registration begins May 26th. Carol Tohsaku distributed the summer schedules for Faculty, Staff and students.

Diskkeeper
Diana Osborn has had requests for Diskkeeper. She asked who uses or might want Diskkeeper. Only a couple people responded that it is being used. However, it was mentioned that if we pursue the purchase of Diskkeeper, our sales representative should be changed.

Netware License
The Novell contract renewal is July 1st. It is currently based on the number of workstations attaching to servers. Diana will soon be asking for information on this from the departments.

Next MWSSLS meeting will be on June 16, 2005 at 10 a.m. in AH-1120.
