Meeting in LL-430 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, Chair

EPO Training
The 2nd half of the EPO training was a success. Only 14 of the original 28 people who attended the 1st training were able to attend. SDSU has 8 additional hours of training to be used with the first two years. It was suggested that EPO be deployed, and see what direction we are heading before scheduling additional training.

Celia Chavez suggested that attendees of both EPO sessions get together and have an exchange between themselves. EPO has been deployed and is working in Business and Financial Affairs. EPO allows BFA to be proactive and see problems remotely. Some of the academic departments are not deploying EPO because faculty donšt want anyone having remote management of their machines.

St. Bernard Update
Diana Osborn has been playing with various aspects of St. Bernard and has been in close contact with the vendor. They have pinpointed some problems but are still researching issues. A new version of St. Bernard is coming out that should fix many problems. Several issues arise from the vendor not understanding our environment. The vendor will be on site during the next upgrade. Diana has been preapproved for beta testing of the new upgrade. She needs a small number of machines to test the beta version.

Stephen Treger mentioned that since Windows does updates and WSUS now has reporting that there is now no advantage to St. Bernard. It was decided to test other patch management alternatives. PatchLink is the name of the patch management software that Merka will be testing.

Since St. Bernard is still not working, Felicia suggested that a formal statement be made to Management so we can test other products. The campus needs working automated patch management software. Diana will be pulling together the list of requirements for patch management then compare that list against how St. Bernard is meeting (or not) the requirements.

Novell Contract
The numbers have been calculated and given to John Ross so the Novell contract can be renewed.

ORACLE contract
The Oracle contract does NOT include media of any kind and would incur a $250,000 charge for breaking the contract. There is now a company that Oracle media can be ordered from without violating the contact. Vendor information is as follows:

Exevision
Oracle Education Division
P. O. Box 971134
Orem, UT 84097
Voice: (800) 676-9212
FAX: (801)359-3692

It was suggested to put a reminder about the Oracle contract in the SDSU Universe.

SPSS 13 Workaround Notes
Celia Chavez sent out a workaround to remove the temporary optional software which comes with SPSS 13. As the software now gets distributed, this workaround procedure is now on the top page of the instructions. We are looking into the possibility of re-engineering the software to remove the optional software.

New Associate Director of ITS
The new Associate Directory of ITS, Jim Julius was introduced. The purpose of the MWSSLS committee was explained to him and the committee members introduced.

Spyware Sub-committee
The NAC security group will be asking the Spyware sub-committee to reform in the near future.

Next MWSSLS meeting will be on July 21, 2005 at 10 a.m. in LL-430.
