Meeting in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, ChairMcAfee Update
Celia Chavez reported that we recently received a quote for a perpetual license for McAfee. We want to put the funds aside now for the January renewal. The home use license expires 9/29/04. In the meantime, Celia has a grant number to download the home use software. Diana has been testing the new version of the home use software. It is full of pop-ups and 3rd party advertising. Would not recommend it to faculty as it stands.A discussion took place on EPO. It is not licensed for the entire campus as it is too expensive as each client must have a license. If departments want this software, they should contact Celia to add it to the contract and their department would need to fund it.
Auto Update Architecture and Installation Designer have been placed on the ~avir website on ROHAN.
St. Bernard Update
Diana is scheduling appointments with departments to set up their user accounts and get them started on using St. Bernard. Currently about 137 licenses have been distributed on campus. Arts and Letters is deploying software and the Library will be putting it on their ghost image. It was mentioned that the notification to users of new patches is not working. Diana will look into this.Spyware
The Spyware Committee is looking to find an enterprise level product. They are evaluating products and seeing what is available. The current products being evaluated are Ad-aware Professional and Pest Patrol.Cyndi Chie is requesting a Quick Guide through Tech Republic with includes Spyware, Spyswiper, Spybot and Pest Control. A Network Security Policy Quick Guide is also available.
Mac OS 10
Beginning September, 2004, UCO will be doing chargebacks for departments who have MAC OS 10 and have received media. Celia Chavez will be sending out an email to contacts, having them verify, add and/or delete number of licenses. SDSU is changing from the TAP program to the AMP (Apple Maintenance Program), and departments will only be charged back once a year. Email will be sent out to departments already on the agreement, and then to others currently not on the agreement to see if theyıd like to join. The fee is $39 to bring a user up to the current version and a $20 per license fee per year.Apple will be releasing the next version of OS 10 called "Tiger" in 2005.
SPSS
UCO now has SPSS version 12. This version has lots of bug and requires patches. Unless someone absolutely needs version 12, version 11.5 will continue as the version of choice.ASAP
ASAP is now selling all Adobe Products. The only remaining item to obtain from Compucom is Filemaker. ASAP now has Microsoft, Adobe and Symantec.Macromedia
The new Macromedia product "Breeze" will not be included in the new Macromedia contract.Cross-Posting Email
Please post email to the most appropriate Email list (MWSSLS, Security, NWNT), and avoid cross-posting between lists. Many users are receiving multiple emails. The only lists that may require cross-posting is MWSSLS and IACC. Software and site license info should be sent to MWSSLS, Security related items to the Security list, and OS related items to NWNT.Next MWSSLS meeting will be on August 19, 2004 at 10 a.m. in AH-1120.
PLEASE NOTE: The statements found on the MWSSLS Home Page are for informational purposes only. While every effort is made to ensure that this information is up to date and accurate, official information can be found in the University publications.
