Meeting in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, ChairIdeas in Action
Posters for the Campus' suggestion program Ideas in Action were distributed. Carol Tohsaku explained the program, which is about employees submitting ideas/suggestions on how to help SDSU save or generate money, or improve a process. There are gifts certificates to the first 200 submissions and a $100.00 cash award if your ideas are implemented.Calendar Committee update
Diana Osborn reported that the Committee attended demonstrations by Microsoft on Exchange and Novell on GroupWise. Meeting Maker has postponed their update/demonstration, due to personal family matters for the presenter. This demo/update has been rescheduled to July 2, 2003 from 1 to 3 in LA-76. This is open for all to attend. Questions regarding any problems you may be currently experiencing will be limited due to time restraints. The committee will meet again after this demo, to review all the demonstrations and express their views.XP training, by Blue Star
Due to a lack of responses, (probably a repercussion of the Fiscal Budget) the Blue Star Training for Windows XP will not be happening at this time.Mac/Windows Academy
Cyndi Chie reported that the OS X 10.2 and XP training plan has been presented to Ernie Griffin and is now waiting for Nancy Marlin to look at and determine if this program can be offered.MS Server 2003 training
Celia Chavez stated that both sessions of the Windows 2003 upgrade training by Microsoft had a good turn out. There were 51 people from SDSU in attendance. Refreshments and validated parking were provided. Surveys of the training reflected a positive learning experience by most attendees. There is a possibility for more training of this type in the future, and at this time we are working towards more detailed training on security.MS Server Media & Distribution contacts
There are four Media & Distribution contacts for the media:
Academic Affairs - Sandra Neer
Business & Financial Affairs - Connie English & Bob Hart
Student Affairs - Kevin Thomas
University Advancement - Joel Avendano. These contacts are able to burn copies of MS Server media for approved departmental contacts which have already been allocated prepaid MS Server licenses. You must provide your own CD(s), along with a few spare ones for the error margin in burning CDs. All new license requests are to go through your Contact person. The allocated licenses fund for this year is mostly used up now. Funds do not roll over to the next year. We have spent about $23,000 of the $28,000 for this yearıs contract.
SPSS Rumors
Celia stated that the SPSS contract is NOT going away. The CSU is still negotiating the new contract & pricing. SPSS has increased the contract price by 300%. We currently have 2000 licenses at SDSU for faculty and staff. The current contract does not allow distribution to students. The students currently have to purchase it at the Bookstore for $189.00. The CSU is working towards getting the students back in our contract for distribution, to justify the extreme price increase.Macromedia Contract
The new contract is still in the works. It may not be finalized until we are in the next fiscal year. Currently if there is some software that is not listed on the web site, it can still be ordered through Keith Wandrey at the Chancellor's Office (ie: Contribute). After the new contract is finalized, the web site will be updated to list all the additional products in the contract. Software keys should be emailed by Keith to end users, after the Department approver replies to Keith email.Safari Online
We will not be pursuing a contract with Safari Online. The decision was based on our reviews. Also the time frame to put books online is erratic. Some new publications and put online within a month and others take a year or more.McAfee software
The new integrated McAfee software, which includes SP1 is now on ROHAN in a Zip file format. We are still tesing the Virex for OSX and it should be up on ROHAN by 6/20/03.Next MWSSLS meeting will be July 17, 2003 in AH-1120 at 10 a.m. It will be chaired by Cyndi Chie, as Diana will be out of town.
