Meeting in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, ChairMcAfee Update
Diana Osborn tested the CD for faculty/staff to use at home. It does require that you register the product when you install it. It is a different install then the campus install. You are registering for a one year agreement.Celia Chavez (UCO) has the CD. She will give a copy of the CD for the install to the IT person responsible for each college (25 colleges). That IT person will be responsible for who has access to that CD. She also has a CD for installation on a MAC. The license is for 3000 faculty/staff installs. The "Corporate" version cannot be installed on home machines, only the CD that Celia distributes can be used.
Patch Management Working Group
The committee presented recommendation to purchase "Saint Bernard Software Update Expert". This was presented to the CIO committee. The committee passed it through to get funding. There should be more information by the next meeting on when and if this is going to happen.Calendar Committee Update
The committee found no real incentive to change at this point, as all products have essentially the same features. The committee has recommended as their first choice Meeting Maker (the newer than we are running version of Meeting Maker was the product considered) and as their second choice Groupwise. If we are to continue with Meeting Maker, we would use version 7.3 until version 8 is available (which is scheduled to be Spring/Summer 2004, depending on the when the .x > than 0 version for Solaris comes out). The question was asked if the 8 Client will work against MM 7.3? Diana says she doesn't know, it is still being tested. After the update, the committee will revisit the need. In the meantime, they recommended training (suggesting BATS) and more use of the product.
Software Survey
The software survey is still a work in progress. It is in the test mode. Testers need to test before January 2004. They need from the departments the contact person, email address and the department name. The full survey should be up by mid-January.Ad-aware vs. Spybot
Those with Ad-aware installed need a license or they need to remove the application immediately. The consensus is that both Ad-aware and Spybot offer basically the same things. Since Spybot is free, the group is recommending users use Spybot.General Discussion
Celia Chavez announced anyone purchasing Adobe or Filemaker from Compucom should email her after their purchase is final for the activation code for the software. Celia has purchased the following applications from ASAP Software:
- Office 2003 Pro
- Visual Studio Net Pro 03
- Frontpage 2003
