Calendar Committee
Meeting in LL-430 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, Chair
Calendar Committee is sending emails out to vendors and setting up demonstrations. The first one will be Novell's GroupWise product. It will be held in February (time and place pending). Contact Diana Osborn, if you have any changes to the criteria being used by the committee.XP Training
Steve Voelker has emailed New Horizons again, but they haven't responded as yet. We do want to hear from them before making any decision on the preferred vendor. Response from all vendors seems to be slow right now.Minimum Workstation Standards Update
Steve Voelker said he plans to have a draft of the standards to the committee members by next week for review. The Final copy will be sent to Carol Phillips for inclusion on the web site about a week later.SDSU Webmaster
Cyndi Chie introduced the new SDSU Webmaster to the MWSSLS members. He is Tyler Ives and the responsible person for the SDSU Home Page. He can be reached at webmaster@sdsu.edu or 44352.Software Survey
Enrollment Services as not yet submitted their data, so final numbers are still pending. Cyndi is planning a revamp to the Survey's website. She would like to have on-line updating of the database in the future using a password system. She distributed a Contact list of the Division/Department Contacts, who have submitted their software data.Discussion ensued over the desire to have someone compile a list of standard Email addresses (i.e. webmaster, postmaster, etc.) used by the different Divisions/Departments along with who is responsible for answering their messages. Cyndi volunteered to send information on the common ones to Carol Phillips for distribution to the MWSSLS mailing list. Diana asked everyone to send similar information for their Division/Department to Carol.
SPSS
Cyndi has been testing the new SPSS 11.5 for Windows and has found it will run older table files. It has a new tables creation method that is both a drag and drop, and easy to use. However, use of old syntax files with this version will require the old tables module be installed. Also, the way multiple responce sets are handled is done differently. Again using older multiple response sets will require their matching older module to be installed. SPSS 11.5 for Windows is available for checkout now.Celia Chavez mentioned that the SPSS 11.0.1 for Macintosh version is here, but that she needs someone to do the testing. The hardware requirements for this version are only a G3 or above and OS X.1.2 or higher can run it. Cyndi volunteered to work with Susan Langsford from Sciences on the testing.
SAS
Celia has made the formal request for new CD sets from the SAS. These would have the new setinits already in them and are $63 per set.McAfee AntiVirus Software
The media for the McAfee Corporate Versions of VirusScan Security Suite for Windows and Virex for Mac platforms were given to Diana at the meeting for the ROHAN virus website. It was noted that the Mac versions 6.1 and 7.x are now on separate media. As noted at last month's meeting, Susan Mar is the registered contact for all of Academic Affairs. Individual Divisions/Departments contacts will need to identify themselves to Susan Mar to get the limited number of copies purchased for their Division or Department. The same is true for individual Divisions/Departments contacts under the following:
The keyword on these purchased copies is limited. Also, documentation came with the media and UCO is looking at how to distribute it. The documents may be obtained through Reprographics, but nothing is decided as yet.
- Connie English, contact for Business Affairs
- Kevin Carter and Kevin Thomas, contacts for Student Affairs
- John Ross, contact for the President's Office
- Sylvia Mangubat, contact for Aztec Shops

Microsoft
The California State University has entered into three new agreements for Microsoft Software effective January 1, 2003 and ending December 31, 2005. The agreements provide licensing of specific Microsoft desktop applications and server technologies to SDSU faculty and staff. Along with the licensing, SDSU receives Microsoft Software Assurance that covers the products for any new releases that come out during the three-year term of the contract. Work-at-home (WAH) provisions are also included in the agreements for SDSU faculty and staff, but how the distribution will be handled is pending. The 3 new agreements are now on the UCO website:
The agreements will provide software licenses for SDSU students, faculty and staff. It will also provide licenses for SDSU for both current and future versions of Microsoft Office, FrontPage, Publisher, Visual Studio.Net Pro, and MS Windows Operating Systems, as well as upgrades for both Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Windows NT Workstation operating systems, including Windows 2000, Windows Millennium and Windows XP.
