Meeting in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, Chair

Calendar Software
According to Gartner Group phone call with Calendaring committee, MeetingMaker is viable for the next 2 years, after that they figure calendaring software will be part of other software packages. Some indication was given to have Outlook use on campus examined. Calendaring being bundled with mail products is being looked at by Bus. Affairs/TNS as a possibility, though no decision has been made. Meeting Maker's offer if we signup by September 26th is a $5000 maintenance fee for 1000 users plus dropping the new user add cost and increasing its availability to all faculty and staff. Helen Haberman stated that there are currently only 81 free accounts left on the current Meeting Maker contract and then we will need to pay $20 for each additional one needed. The committee members may have another conference call with Gartner to learn what might be the leading contenders of Calendaring software currently. Diana will send the previous Calendaring software specifications to the committee, so they will have a starting point to begin their review.

Software Survey
Survey is ready on the web, but the database link is not complete. It was decided to go with just the web version now. Diana will Email the URL out to the MWSSLS and IACC mailing lists and request the data be completed for each group/department/college by October 4th.

XP training update
No report was made.

Spam filtering
John Denune announced that he is looking at the possibility of offering Spam filtering on the mail.sdsu.edu server similar to what is being done on ROHAN. However if it happens, it will be around the December break.

Qualitative Data Analysis Software
Diana has received inquiries about site licensing some Qualitative Data Analysis software. Suzanne Michael, Geography, stated that her department has a Watershed Vision grant that is driving their need for this type of software that would handle statistics, trends, and models. They are interested in HyperResearch for the Macintosh or some comparable Windows product. Suzanne also felt that any Humanities research could find use for this product.

Personal Firewall Software
Zone Lab Inc will have a demo in AD-3 at 1 p.m. for up to 15 people on September 20th on their Firewall software.

Computer Leasing
After a short discussion, it was agreed that computer leasing would cost generally more in fees than buying, when a screw was missing or computer had a scratch. However grants with short term leases may find it to be advantageous.

XWin32
The Library is looking into purchasing a floating license for Xwin software. Xwin32 and PC Xware quotes are being requested. Stephen Treger suggested cygwin, a freeware product, as a possible choice.

Canvas 8
Diana stated a Canvas 8 unlimited license for faculty and staff would cost $5000. This is a cross-platform drawing tool.

Next MWSSLS meeting will be October 17, 2002 in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
