Calendar Committee
Meeting in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, Chair
Diana announced plans for the Calendar Committee to meet once a month with vendor demos scheduled regularly. They will post the judging criteria on the web when it is ready. She will also announce this at the next IACC meeting.Software Survey
Collecting and compiling the software survey data is still in process. A few more reports are now in Cyndi's hands.XP Training
Steve Voelker has been in contact with Vortex. They are looking at basing our training on their course 2272 - Windows XP Pro, a 5 day training. Steve is telling the vendors that we could like this sometime during Spring semester.SPAM Filtering
Diana announced that John Denune removed the spam filtering from the mail.sdsu.edu server due to processing issues. Jim Edwards mentioned a product named, Mail Washer, that will send a fake bounce message to the sender and is designed for individual computer users. Stephen Treger said there is a plug-in for Eudora. It was discussed that a plug-in like this would work, if there were some structured training offered for Eudora. Consensus of the group was that there would need to be some testing before MWSSLS could recommend any product. The majority would like to keep the spam filtering on the server side as much as possible.Xwin32, PC Xware, and cygwin
College of Sciences is doing real world testing this semester on cygwin in a couple of labs (BA-346 and BA-251 or BA-254). Hope to have a report on results in January. The Library will be purchasing Xwin32.Minimum Workstation Standards Update
Steve Voelker will chair this sub-committee to update our hardware specs. Please send Diana Osborn an Email, if you want to join the committee.Software News
According to Celia Chavez:Diana mentioned that the Virex 7.x for Mac OS X script is just like UNIX for auto update.
- The Microsoft Enterprise agreement negotiations are on going per Celia Chavez.
- SPSS version 11.5 for Windows is coming.
- McAfee is still in negotiations with no decision on the issues.
- If you need to move your Mac OS to version X.2 for the Spring semester, go ahead, and send an Email detailing the additional quantity of workstations to be added to the Mac TAP program to Dave Shaw (dshaw@mail.sdsu.edu with a carbon copy to aemerick@mail.sdsu.edu [Angie Emerick Young]) and the chargeback should be cleared up in March.
- The setinits for SAS are here, and will be e-mailed out to designated campus representatives.
- The MS Select CDs are here. There is only one (1) set per campus. They are not the same as the hologram CDs people receive from ASAP Inc. The Select CD package contains the entire Microsoft Suite. The CDs are to only be used in case of an emergency. Anyone requesting use of these CDs must show proof of a pending purchase order for the product software license, along with the purchase of the media. This must accompany a letter from the Chair of the College or the Director, Manager, or VP of the department describing the emergency. The media will then be checked out for only 24 hours and cannot be burned. This media only comes in CD format.
Discussion was had on ways to publish the details on who is covered by the SAS, SPSS, and Microsoft Agreements. It was agreed to look into an article in the SDSUniverse.
The lack of Eudora support on campus was also discussed. It was also noted that Eudora PC and Eudora Mac are indeed two separate products that just happen to act the same. Their behind the scenes activity is totally different according to Stephen Treger
