----------------------------------------------------------------------

March 21, 2002
Meeting in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, Chair

Plagiarism
Turnitin is being considered for site license at the Chancellor's Office level. They need some faculty to test the software and review it's usefulness reporting this information back to the Chancellor's office. (Since the meeting I have found out that the program is free for all faculty to use until the end of May, 2002. This information needs to get out to the faculty so they can try it if they are interested. Results from the reviews will be compiled at the Chancellor's Office and used in their negotiations for site license).

Reference Manager, End Note, and Procite
No additional information at this point. Need numbers of interested users to move forward.

Standard Software
Cyndi Chie and Diana Osborn are compiling a form for survey that will be posted to the web. Notification will be sent out when it is ready. Results will be tabulated and posted.

Macromedia
The Chancellor's Office is currently in negotiations for a site license or volume discount for all Macromedia products.

Calendar Committee
The question of whether the committee should be reconvened was brought up. There was a question of whether or not the current MeetingMaker license was going to be renewed by TNS.

McAfee Update
The McAfee contract expires in October of 2002. The total cost of this contract necessitates it going out to bid. There are several companies that are interested in participating in the bid process. A committee, headed by Bob Hart, will meet to determine the specifications and requirements for the potential competitors. The committee will report back to MWSSLS at the next meeting.

ASAP and Compucom
These two companies are servicing the Microsoft Enterprise Agreement (ASAP) and various volume purchase agreements that have been negotiated through the Chancellor's Office (Compucom). If you experience any problems with these vendors it is important that Celia Chavez is notified. Email is the best method, you can reach her at

To reiterate the Microsoft Enterprise Agreement consists of the following items:

A certain number of student licenses have been purchased in this agreement as well. The bookstore handles the distribution of these. They have been renting the media but found that the students were not returning it. (Apparently they considered the rental fee adequate to keep the media). The bookstore is now selling a media pack for an administrative fee.

Compucom is currently servicing volume agreements on the following products:

Other products will be added as agreements are made.

SAS
Version 8.2 is out, however due to some problems with the software it is recommended to stay with 8.1

SPSS
Version 10.0.5 for Windows will no longer be supported due to the syntax problems it has. Version 10.1 is the preferred version. Codes will not be supplied for 10.0.x versions when they expire. Version 11.1 is available. It is certified to work with Windows XP. Version 10.0.7 for the Macintosh is the most current. However, it has a bug that requires reinstallation when the codes expire. Celia has a perpetual license for lab installations. You must contact her and verify that the installations are for a lab. Individual installations are not getting this code.

Next MWSSLS meeting will be April 18, 2002 in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
