Meeting in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, Chair

Correction from Richard Cobble on the September 20 minutes
There are a few inaccuracies on the MWSSLS minutes for Sept 20 web page. One, it does appear that there will be a campus ldap server. However, the SIMSR group has not picked Oracle's and appears to be waiting for a the ldap committee's selection assuming that it will work with Oracle portal. Secondly, the portal committee never selected Oracle portal. The SIMSR group decided to go ahead with the Oracle portal on their own. The portal committee kind of died before any selection was made.

McAfee
McAfee has one more year on our contract. The web site on ROHAN for updates is http://rohan.sdsu.edu/~avir/ This site is accessible from Ezproxy, but user must be in the Libraryıs Patron file. If you have PC version 4.5.0, then you need both the auto upgrade set and the new dat file. If you have PC version 4.5.1, you just need to point to the dat file. Macintosh versions are still not available on the ROHAN site. Also, ROHAN is having some slowness in downloads; checking on this. Wednesday night is McAfeeıs official night for updating the files, while Thursday morning, Sunday & possibly Tuesday script are run on ROHAN.

Plagiarism
Plagiarism is a concern with faculty; refer faculty to a plagiarizing checking web site http://www.turnitin.com/ This can be used in classroom settings according to Patrick Sullivan, Librarian. There is a 30-day free download of the software that color codes found plagiarism. A manual is available on the Turnitin site. Also, there is a powerpoint presentation on the Edweb server for download at http://edweb.sdsu.edu/courses/ed791b/plagiarism.ppt

Site License Request
Patrick Sullivan, Librarian, has requested the committee look into an EndNote site license. Currently a student version is available for $99. He also requested that we look at ProCite as well.

Web Accessibility
Cyndi Chie reported on the Web Accessibility Summit. She mentioned that the Employee ADA Advisory Committee and the Instructional Technology Committee of the Senate are taking up this issue. Next spring BATS may do a class on accessibility. Many Community Colleges have embraced this issue with web sites, funds, and a variety of other events. It was noted that the American Foundation for the Blindıs web site is a good source of material. Templates for SDSU sites are in the development process and come in 3 varieties. They are part of the Style Guide revision project and will take accessibility issue into their development.

Mac OS X.1
Celia Chavez spoke on the contract for Mac OS X.1. Please be aware from this point on there must not be any burning of OS CDs full or upgrade versions. Original media for departments is here and notification is being sent. If more copies are needed, they can be purchased later for $15 each with a minimum order of 10 copies. Tony Graham may provide a presentation on OS X.1 in the future.

SPSS Update
