KnowledgeNet
Meeting in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, Chair
Due to illness, KnowledgeNet presentation has been cancelled. Discussion was held on the possibility of rescheduling them for the December IACC meeting. Diana will talk with Susan Mar.Training and Matlab Information
Diana noted that there were extra copies available of the material presented by SmartForce at IACC on 11/5/01. Carol mentioned that until 12/31/01, those wanting to burn CDs of the current SmartForce courses should go to ITS. Diana also made available some recent Matlab information.Turnitin
Turnitin interest is still being assessed. Marilyn Hall, Librarian, mentioned faculty interest in some type of incorporation of Turnitin or comparable product in classes. Please let Diana know if your college faculty are interested in having MWSSLS pursue this.EndNotes/Procite
EndNotes/Procite site license request is also being assessed for interest. Marilyn Hall said the same vendor offers a product called Reference Manager, which is used mainly by research scientists. It is more robust than the other two packages and easily networkable on a central server. EndNotes is generally used by graduate students, while Procite is primarily used by Librarians. Marilyn volunteered to do a search on other vendors of plagarism products and research information/interest on the EndNotes/Procite/Reference Manager products for the December meeting. Diana will check with Purchasing on the number of EndNotes/Procite/Reference Manager products being purchased on campus.McAfee
McAfee web site on ROHAN is http://rohan.sdsu.edu/~avir/ This "quick and dirty" site and its links to different version directories were displayed for the members. It was setup for techs to access and isn't really intended for end user use without some coaching. It will probably be a while before Diana can get back to it to make it more self-explanatory. The Macintosh version for 9.x and below now has a link to a download directory. Diana mentioned that the site still needs a link to the reg file. The new McAfee version now integrates with Outlook and will monitor if 40 or more messages are being sent on a single message and will query if this is okay. However, at this point, SDSU does not have the new version for distribution.
Question on Internet filtering was raised and the AOL browser was recommended.
Next MWSSLS meeting will be December 20, 2001 in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
