Minimum Workstation and Software Site License Subcommittee Minutes

----------------------------------------------------------------------

February 15, 2001
Meeting in AH-1120 at 10 a.m.
Diana Osborn, Chair

McAfee Update
The data file updates will be housed on campus on the server rohan. Celia will have the access information for the data coordinators. Program updates are still being worked on for local distribution.

Diskkeeper
If this program is going to be purchased on discount it will need to be from funds from the individual departments. Academic Affairs may coordinate the purchase order if there are enough departments with funds to do the purchase.

Personal Firewalls
This topic is being moved to the Security Subcomittee as the more appropriate committee to deal with it.

Backup Software
This topic is being removed from the agenda at this time.

Secure ftp/telnet
Stephen provided a handout with a sample script demonstrating the possibility of doing a secure ftp transfer by running the secure version of teraterm and this script. There are some issues with doing it this way. He suggested the possibility of using a program called PUTTY which is small, scriptable and supports both ssh1 and ssh2 and is free.

Xwin32
Details were not available yet. Hopefully by next meeting.

ScheduleOnline
Presentation was made of the program including a question and answer session. It was decided that more people should test it out and perhaps another session with the technical people could be scheduled to answer any other questions.

Next MWSSLS meeting will be March 22, 2001 in LL-431 at 10 a.m.
