Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the area of geographic information systems.  Initial appointment is available immediately for one year with the potential for extension.  The successful candidate will interface with ongoing research programs that focus on geospatial archiving of detections of marine mammals along with local oceanographic measurements and network interfaces to larger databases of such measurements.  Applicants should have a Ph.D. in an appropriate field and a background in temporal-spatial geographic information systems or a related area.  Strong programming skills are required, and knowledge of extensible markup language (XML) representations such as the Open Geographic Consortium’s Sensor markup language and ISO 19115 are desired.  Salary based on UC Salary Scale.  PhD should be received no later than 2009.
