Robbie Chasse holds the position of President and is the official refounder of the Math Club of SDSU established in January 2009. Robbie comes from a four year background in American Sign Language Interpreting from Mesa College in San Diego. During his last years at Mesa he pursued a career in the San Diego Unified School District as a Special Education Technician from winter of 2005 to the summer of 2007. After realizing that neither interpreting nor special education was for him, he continued his education in mathematics. Robbie is currently pursuing a BA in Single Subject Math. If you do not catch him at school you will probably find him outdoors hiking, camping, or just enjoying the sun. Robbie intends to use his new degree in mathematics to educate high school students in a fun and approachable way. He aims to receive his masters in mathematics and his doctorate in education. In later years, he has the desire to write math books for the high school level of education.

Chrystian Irazoque holds the position of Vice President in the Math Club of SDSU established in January 2009. Chrystian coming from a low income Hispanic family came into San Diego State University with high hopes of becoming the first college graduate in his family. From a young age Chrystian knew mathematics was something that came easily to him, so he decided to pursue a major in Applied Mathematics. It was during this year that he had the opportunity to apply what he had learned in a class room to an actual research study; while being mentored by one of the top researchers in the mathematical field at San Diego State University, Dr. Salamon. In the year and half he conducted research, he was able to present his findings in creating Phylogenetic taxonomy using marcov chains in several prestige conferences. It wasn’t until his sophomore year that he realized he also had a passion for Japanese. Knowing this he decided to study abroad in Japan for a year to further his understanding of the Japanese language and culture. His busy schedule of school, work, and research allows for little free time, but when he does have free time he enjoys hanging out with friends, going on road trips, and parting the night away. With his knowledge of mathematics and Japanese, Chrystian intends to obtain a PhD in Psychology and use this doctorate to further understand mathematics and its relationship with students and its unpopularity.

Kayleigh Neel holds the position of Treasurer of the Math Club of SDSU. Kayleigh is a second year student at San Diego State University. She is currently studying to become a teacher, majoring in Single Subject Math as well as Liberal Studies. Whenever Kayleigh is not at studying, babysitting, or working at her church as an administrative assistant, she enjoys shopping, watching TV with her family, and going to concerts with her best friend. Kayleigh has a passion for teaching: she currently teaches Sunday school to preschoolers at the First United Methodist Church of San Diego. However, she also hopes to get more students interested in math, so she plans on using her math BA degree to teach high school mathematics. She is going to receive a BA in liberal studies as well, should she decide to teach elementary school. She plans on obtaining her masters in mathematics, and a doctorate in education.

Staci Benak is the events coordinator for the newly founded math club. She is in her second year pursuing a degree in single subject mathematics with a minor in sign language, where she will continue on to help educate future generations in the high schools math department. Though she thoroughly enjoys cranking out math problems, in her free time she enjoys being outdoors staying active. Swimming laps at the pool and entering in long distant marathon and half marathon races are some of the few of her favorite activities. In the future, as Staci is teaching high school math, she will further her education by getting a masters in education in hopes of holding a high school administrator position.

John is the secretary of the Math Club and is currently a 3rd year majoring in Mathematics with an emphasis in Physics. Coming to SDSU from Riverside John was originally a Business (Finance) major but realized that he was denying his true passion for math. After switching his major to Mathematics with an emphasis in Finance for one semester he finally tweaked it one last time for an emphasis in Physics. John hopes to use this degree to further pursue education, research and development in the field of Physics and Astronomy as well as to achieve his ultimate goal of taking a trip into space. John is also an avid sports fan who bleeds Dodger Blue. Aside from the Math Club and school, John spends his time working at a local YMCA where he has been a nighttime manager for close to 2 years, playing music or having a good time with his friends, his fraternity brothers, his dog Penny and his lovely girlfriend Maricelle.
