Sandra Contreras |
|
Sandra Contreras is a gradute of San Diego State University (2000). During 1997-1998, Ms. Contreras worked with Dr. Terry Cronan as a researcher for Project P.R.I.M.E.R. (Producing Infant/Mother Ethnic Readers), a program increasing literacy in low-income children that directly involves early education intervention with disadvantaged children to produce positive, long-lasting, and significant effects. In 1998, she was named to the Dean's List. In 1999, she was accepted into the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program. She is a member of Psi Chi National Honor Society, the Golden Key National Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. Currently, Ms. Contreras is conducting research under Dr. Vanessa Malcarne in the area of Ethnic Studies. In August 1999, she presented her study entitled "The Relationship of Perceived Discrimination to Self-Esteem in Four Ethnic Groups" at the McNair Summer Research Conference at the University of California, San Diego. She continues to work in Dr. Malcarne's SEE (Scale of Ethnic Experience) lab at San Diego State University, and plans to pursue a doctoral degree in Psychology. | |

Vivian E. Ruiz Vaccarino |

Vivian is a 2001 graduate of San Diego State University. She was a participant in the McNair Scholar program. Currently she is researching depression in Mexican American College students. Her SDSU McNair 1999 summer research project examined the relationship of acculturation/generation to anxiety and depression in Mexican American college students. She presented her study at the UCSD Summer Research Conference. | |
